Zimmerman' (lower right) oil on canvas 30 x 30in PROVENANCE: Sale, Butterfields & Butterfields, San Francisco, California, 17 June 1999, lot 1307 This painting depicts a portrait of Rudolf Valentino who starred in the 1922 silent film, Blood and Sand . Although this painting does not reflect a particular scene in the movie, it illustrates the character's allure to women admirers as he gains fame as Spain's leading matador while also representing the struggle to be faithful to his wife.
