§ Fred Yates (British, 1922-2008) Meadow and creek watercolour h:83 w:115 cm Fred Yates was born in Ardwick, Manchester. He painted full-time from 1969 and relocated to Fowey in Cornwall in 1980. His first solo exhibition was held at the Reynolds Gallery, Plymouth in 1976, followed by a second exhibition at the same gallery, 1980. He has exhibited at the Royal Academy and at John Moores Liverpool Exhibition Condition is fine.

Description: Fred Yates (British, 1922-2008) Portrait of Steve, circa 1960 oils on board 44cm x 34cm. Exhibited: John Martin Gallery, London, Fred Yates: The Lost Paintings, March - April 2003. The sitter was a solicitor from New York who was on holiday in Fowey, Cornwall. The sitter challenged Yates to paint his portrait and he did two, keeping the best one (which is this example).
