Estimate $ 2,000-4,000 Wax lined. 3 3/4 inch vertical tear in cetner with paint loss, largest 3/4 inch; two dime sized areas of loss in upper left; scratch in lower left; frame abrasions visible along lower edge; stretcher marks visible along upper and left edges; craquelure throughout; under UV, strokes of retouch along stretcher marks on left edge; under varnish, apparent restoration in upper left and upper center; four areas of retouch in lower left. Framed: 32 x 53 inches.

Lot 398 Alexander Helwig Wyant (American, 1836-1892) Late Summer Landscape Signed "A.H. Wyant" l.l. Oil on canvas, 16 x 23 1/2 in. (41.3 x 59.8 cm), framed (under glass). Condition: Minor retouch, weakened tacking edges, varnish inconsistencies, surface grime. Estimate $4,000-6,000 Separation of tacking edges in several places along the top edge and upper sides. Areas of more reflective varnish overall, but most noticeable in the darker shadows in l.r. Retouch seems to be old, as it fluoresces only very palely. The areas are located along the horizon and where the sky meets the tree branches c.l. Scattered small dots to the sky.

(50.8 x 76.2cm) Estimate $5,000-8,000 In fair to poor overall condition, with canvas being relined and areas of fairly extensive restoration and retouch, including, but not limited to, the main tree and the area at center right/right where the landscape meets the treeline. There is also restoration in the landscape itself, with a lesser amount of restoration in part of sky at left.
