CHARLES HERBERT WOODBURY (1864-1940) THE JULY CENTURY. 1895. 19x11 3/4 inches, 48 1/4x29 3/4 cm. Condition B+: losses, tears and creases in lower left corner; light creasing in margins and image and along unobtrusive vertical and horizontal folds; paper remnants in upper image. Paper. A student at M.I.T., Woodbury was a Boston-based artist who specialized in landscapes, seascapes, watercolors and prints. "The rich effects of his poster designs were conveyed by the disposition of sharp lines and flat areas of limited color" (Kiehl p. 193). Watercolor on Whatman watercolor board, 17 1/2 x 21 7/8 in. (44.4 x 55.5 cm), framed. Condition: Toning, wear to edges of paperboard. Also numbered "109" within a circle to the right of the title on the reverse. Brown paper tape and abrasions to the reverse of the paperboard support.
