Charles Herbert Woodbury (American, 1864-1940) Narrow Cove - 5 Figures Titled in pencil, estate stamped, and inscribed "CMU/CCH/GR" in watercolor on the reverse. Watercolor on Whatman watercolor board, 17 1/2 x 21 7/8 in. (44.4 x 55.5 cm), framed. Condition: Toning, wear to edges of paperboard. Also numbered "109" within a circle to the right of the title on the reverse. Brown paper tape and abrasions to the reverse of the paperboard support.

Property from the Hugh Johnston Hubbard Trust, Lake Forest, Illinois one-inch long indentation in upper right quadrant; otherwise appears in basic good condition; Under UV, four minor areas of retouch in each corner; 2 pin dot areas of retouch in sky in upper right quadrant. Framed: 23 3/4 x 25 1/2 inches.

Charles Herbert Woodbury (American, 1864-1940) Lone Survivor , alternately titled Stripped Land 1925 Unsigned, titled on the stretcher, identified on a label from The MIT Museum, Cambridge, Massachusetts, affixed to the backing. Oil on canvas, 36 x 39 3/4 in. (92.0 x 101.0 cm), in a period frame. Condition: Lined, minor scattered retouch (predominately to lower edge). Provenance: Ex-collection of Ruth Ruyl Woodbury, daughter-in-law of the artist; Skinner Inc., American & European Paintings, November 22, 2002, Sale 2168, Lot 280. Literature: Joan Loria and Warren A. Seamans, Earth, Sea and Sky: Charles H. Woodbury, Artist and Teacher 1864-1940 (Cambridge: The MIT Museum, 1988), p. 90.
