Add. Notes: signed and dated 'J L Wood 1851' (lower right), signed and inscribed '/L. J. Wood./38 Park Road Haverstock/Hampstead' (on the reverse) oil on panel 16 x 11¾ in. (40.6 x 29.8 cm.)Notes: La Danseuse au Soleil noir is related to the later print Le Cracheur de Flammes (D. 650), but is presented in a landscape rather than a portrait format, and also bears differences in the background colours. This is confirmed by the certificate written in pencil by the director of the Fondació Miró on the reverse of the sheet. As this is the Bon í Tirer impression for an edition which was not executed, it may be presumed to be unique.

Lot Notes
Born in London, Lewis John Wood was a landscape and
architectural painter in both oil and watercolour, and a
lithographer. He exhibited from 1831, and from 1836 mainly painted
scenes of northern France and Belgium. His early work was much
influenced by the work of Thomas Shotter Boys.
