Estimate $250-350 Sloans & Kenyon is pleased to present at auction Part III of a collection of more than one hundred works of art by Pennsylvania Post-impressionist painter Milo K. Winter (1913-2002). The collection has been consigned by the former Virginia Lippincott Gallery, Phoenixville, PA, which represented Winter for the last 20 years of his life This is the first selection of Winter's works to be offered since the artist's death. Winter, a well-known and widely-admired artist who maintained his studio in Chester County, PA, was the son of Milo Winter, Sr., a famous illustrator of children's books. Winter studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and Cranbrook Art Institute in Michigan, in addition to the O'Hara Art School in Goose Rocks Beach, Maine, where he taught in the summer. Further, Winter was a member of the art faculty at the Rhode Island School of Design from 1939 to 1950. During his long career, Winter exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Worcester Museum of Art, The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the Rhode Island School of Design. His paintings are found in the permanent collections at RISD and the St. Louis Museum of Art, among other museums. Winter's works emphasize color and pattern, in the manner of Matisse and Cezanne, to whom he has been compared. Winter painted primarily in oil and watercolor, specializing in rural landscapes, seascapes, and still lifes.
