George Augustus Williams (British, 1814-1901) A figure and horses walking beside a river initialled 'GAW' (lower right), oil on canvas 29.5 x 50cm (11 5/8 x 19 11/16in). Footnote: George Augustus Williams painted Thames views, coastal scenes and other landscapes. From a prolific artistic family, he was the son of Edward 'Old' Williams, and the brother of five successful Victorian landscape painters, including Henry John, who changed his surname to 'Boddington', and Sidney Richard, who became 'Percy'.
