Contained within original gilt frame and mount. Alexander Williamstravelled the length and breath of Ireland recording scenes of theIrish countryside, many of which later featured in the text,Beautiful Ireland, Leinster, Ulster, Munster, Connaught Painted byAlexander Williams and Described by Stephen Gwynn, 1910. In thetext William chooses to illustrate The Minaun Cliffs, Achill Island(Connaught, p. 51), however, his description of the island isperhaps better reflected in this work as Gwynn notes, "But for allthat it may offer of wilderness, of grandeur, and of interest,Achill has no charm for me. Poverty is a show there: in the villageof Keel can still be seen beehive-shaped wigwams rather thanhouses; and it always seems as if the elements there had been toostrong for man and left him huddled and cowering on the earth."
