CATALOGUE NOTE
Jan Hillebrand Wijsmuller was born in Amsterdam and moved to TheHague in 1879, where he became a member of Pulchri Studio. In 1881he returned to Amsterdam. From that moment onwards he became aproductive landscape painter in the tradition of the Hague School,drawing inspiration from the villages around Amsterdam. The presentlot bears some resemblance to a winter landscape in the collectionof the Museum Mesdag, which is sometimes identified asMonnickendam. In 1893 Wijsmuller sold this painting in PulchriStudio to H.W. Mesdag. The present lot is one of the undisputedhighlights in the oeuvre of the artist.

Visual: Generally good condition. Blacklight: Scattered tiny spots of touch-up throughout, particularly in the center and upper center quadrants, upper left and lower left quadrants. Evidence of touch-up on repaired tears in the lower left quadrant, center quadrant and right center quadrant.
