Literature:
comp: Diem, Eugen: Heinrich von Zügel. Recklinghausen 1975, No. 482 - 506.
The motif of the young boy driving a group of cattle takes up a complete section in the catalogue of Diem. Ever again during 1906 abd 1918 studies and sketches were made, which served as exercises for the larger works. Zugel was especially fascinated by the dynamic
struggle of the boy with the unruly cattle as well as the play of light and reflexion in the moving water. The work at hand is closely related to our painting is a dated canvas painting of 1911. Except for the background both paintings contains the same compotion with only a few differing details.
