Wojciech Kossak (1856 - 1942)
Wojciech Kossak (son of Juliusz Kossak) was painter and studied at the Krakow School of Fine Arts as well as the Munich Academy and in Paris. He spent the years 1895-1902 in Berlin, working for Cesar Wilhelm II. Wojciech Kossak traveled a lot, among others he visited Spain and Egypt. In later years he often visited the United States in order to fulfill portrait orders. In 1912 he was appointed professor at the Warsaw School of Fine Arts. During World War I Kossak served in the army. He was the co-creator of the Panoramas of: Rac�awice (1893-1894), Berezyna (1895-1896), The battle under the Pyramids (1901) and of the Samosierra unfinished sketches (1900). The artist created battle, generic and historical scenes as well as portraits. He loved to paint horses. Kossak’’s art greatly appealed to the patriotic feeling of the Polish nation.

Wojciech Kossak (1856 - 1942)

"Reconnaissance" measures 18 x 14 1/4 in. (45.5 x 36.0 cm) and is painted on wood panel. "A Cold Winter March" measures 18 1/2 x 13 in. (47.0 x 33.0 cm) and is painted on heavy paperboard. Both with labels from Parfitt's frame studio, Holyoke, Massachusetts on the reverse.
