CATALOGUE NOTE
Born in Italy, Emmanuel Villanis moved to Paris to become of themost prolific sculptors of his period, rendering hundreds ofmodels, mostly feminine subjects. He began exhibiting at the ParisSalon in 1886 and, interestingly, scholars believe that each of hisrenderings of female sitters depicts his own daughter.
