Villanis’’’’’’’’ on the left garnet hem Foundry mark verso at the upper edge of the base ‘Société de bronzes de Paris’’’’’’’’, inscribed ‘AP’’’’’’’’ and numbered ‘4565’’’’’’’’ Titled ‘La Sybille’’’’’’’’ on the front side of the base Dimensions: 69.2 x 42 x 27 cm Condition: The bronze bust is in very good condition. The patina is slightly rubbed at the top of the head. Occasional small scratches. The dimensions of 69.2 x 42 x 27 cm. Emmanuel Villanis (1858-1914) The French sculptor Emmanuel Villanis studied at the Accademia Albertina di Belle Arti in Turin. He is recorded especially for his numerous female bronze busts. In his works, elements of the Art Nouveau style come together with the shapes of the classical antiquity. Also, some characters are reminiscent of the symbolism, which are often provided with a subtle eroticism.
