AGOSTINO DE MUSI, CALLED VENEZIANO (CIRCA 1490 - CIRCA 1536) Hercules and Antaeus engraving, 1533, on laid paper, watermark Anchor in a Circle surmounted by a Star, a good impression of the first state (of three, according to the British Museum), before Salamanca's address, trimmed to or just outside the subject, lacking the blank text border below, a made-up paper loss at lower right, a small loss at the upper left corner, two short tears at the left sheet edge, some thin spots, framed Sheet 224 x 180 mm.

Provenance Albertina, Vienna, with their duplicate stamp (Lugt 5h). Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (Lugt 1943), with their duplicate stamp (Lugt 1808h), dated 5/27/70 in pencil. Literature Bartsch XIV. 237. 316

VENEZIANO, AGOSTINO real name. Agostino dei Musi (Venice 1490 - circa 1569) The sacrifice of Isaac, probably after Raphael or Giulio Romano. Circa 1515/20. Copper engraving. Engraved monogram upper right: A.V. 27.8 x 20.2 cm. Bartsch XIV.6.5; Passavant 1860-64 VI.51.1. - Strong, clear and even impression, with a fine margin on three sides around the outer line. The right hand margin with ca. 0,5 cm added professionally and restored with black pen. The upper margin of the unprinted areas with professional restorations. Overall good impression. Rare. --------------- VENEZIANO, AGOSTINO eigentll. Agostino dei Musi (Venedig 1490 - um 1569) Die Operung des Isaak, wohl nach Raphael oder Giulio Romano. Um 1515/20. Kupferstich. Oben rechts gestochenes Monogramm: A.V. 27,8 x 20,2 cm. Bartsch XIV.6.5; Passavant 1860-64 VI.51.1. - Kräftiger, klarer und gleichmässiger Druck dreiseitig mit feinem Rändchen um die Einfassungslinie. Der rechte Rand ca. 0,5 cm fachmännisch angesetzt und mit schwarzer Feder ergänzt. Der obere Rand in den unbedruckten Partien mit fachmännischen Restaurierungen. Insgesamt guter Gesamteindruck. - Selten.
