Lot 34: Joe Tilson, Conjunctions, 6 Serigraphs in Colors, 1996 Series of 6 serigraphs in colors over woodcut on watercolor cardboard Great Britain, 1996 Joe Tilson (b. 1928) – British painter and graphic artist, important representative of British Pop art in the 1960s Each signed and dated ‘Tilson 1996’ and numbered ‘43/45’ in pencil Printed at Advanced Graphics, London Published by Alan Cristea Gallery, London Catalogue raisonné: di Martino p. 178-181 Image dimensions: each 55 x 75.5 cm, sheet sized Very good condition Object is regular taxed. 19% VAT is added to the purchase price for deliveries within the EU. In direct relation to painting cycles Joe Tilson creates in close temporal context, often simultaneously print series. Also this series of plates printed in very complex technique and with impasto application of paint preceded paintings. Condition: The 6 serigraphs in colors over woodcut are all in very good condition. The sheet sized images measure each 55 x 75.5 cm. Joe Tilson (b. 1928) The London-born British artist Joe Tilson studied from 1949 at the St. Martins School of Art. In 1952 he moved to the Royal College of Art, where he studied until 1955. A scholarship then led him for two years to Rome. Back in London Tilson taught at the St. Martin's School until 1963, further teaching positions in England and Germany followed. In 1968 he participated in the documenta 4 in Kassel. Originally belonging to the British Pop art, Tilson later developed typographical compositions of visual signs and concepts. Joe Tilson, a member of the Royal Academy of Arts since 1985, now lives in London and Italy. (fea) Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
