§ Joe Tilson, RA (British, b.1928) Persephone, 1985 signed lower right "Joe Tilson" and numbered 14/60 soft ground etching, lift-ground and aquatint with carborundum h:87 w:77 cm Provenance: From the collection of Simon Hilton, Cambridge Persephone, the goddess of spring, who notoriously ate a pomegranate seed whilst in Hades, has been one of many Greek-related themes in Joe Tilson's work. Tilson has been represented several times at the Venice Biennale and the Tate hold examples of his work. Paper is undulating under glass but otherwise fine.

The three plates of the series are titled as followed: Conjunction, Blackbird, Zara Conjunction, Gazzaladra, Zurro Conjunction, Oriole, Luna Condition: The 3 serigraphs in colors over woodcut are all in very good condition. The sheet sized images measure each 56.5 x 77 cm. Joe Tilson (b. 1928) The London-born British artist Joe Tilson studied from 1949 at the St. Martins School of Art. In 1952 he moved to the Royal College of Art, where he studied until 1955. A scholarship then led him for two years to Rome. Back in London Tilson taught at the St. Martin's School until 1963, further teaching positions in England and Germany followed. In 1968 he participated in the documenta IV in Kassel. Originally belonging to the British Pop art, Tilson later developed typographical compositions of visual signs and concepts. Joe Tilson, a member of the Royal Academy of Arts since 1985, now lives in London and Italy. Joe Tilson (B. 1928) The Software Chart Questionnaire the complete portfolio, 1968, comprising six screenprints in colours, of which five are on wove paper, bound with title, text and justification, signed and dedicated on the justification and numbered 78/150, in a ring binder with aluminium covers, the title printed in green on the front, the sixth screenprint on silver foil loose in a large wove paper envelope, scratch signed and numbered 54/150, all housed in a wooden slipcase, with a screenprint design on the front and a zigzag shaped left edge with brass embellishments, published by Sergio Tosi, Milan, a few abrasions to the slipcase, other minor blemishes, otherwise in good, original condition 430 x 507 mm.
