Exhibited Edinburgh, Royal Scottish Academy, 1907, no. 323. Lot Notes David George Steell was the son of Gourlay Steell, the successful animal painter who had been appointed 'Animal-Painter for Scotland' by Queen Victoria on the death of Landseer. David George studied at the RSA schools and became an ARSA in 1885.

Saleroom Notice Colonel Dewar is the gentleman approaching the trap held by thegroom McNab. The picture was painted on the Outh Moor whichbelonged to the Adams family of Blairadam, Kelty and leased byDewar. Provenance: W. C. Stenhose, Linburn, thence by descent to Charles Stewart, Broomh, Fife The Edwards Gallery, North Berwick, Scotland Scott McTaggart (acquired from the above in 1975)
