G ), lower left, 21 x 28.5cm (8 1/4 x 11 1/4 in), unframed. The building depicted still exists as private cottages in Mouse Lane, Steyning, West Sussex, shown here as having been partially thatched at that time, annotated as 'chaume' by the artist, another word for thatch) .

James Stark (British, 1794-1859) Cattle resting by a manor house oil on canvas 36 x 43cm (14 3/16 x 16 15/16in). Within a fine gilt gesso frame. We are grateful for the assistance of Peter Kennedy-Scott in confirming the attribution of this lot; he notes that the manor house may be derived from both Cow Tower and Pull's Ferry, Norwich. This work has been identified as by James Stark (1794-1859).
