Lovingly assembled by the couple over the courseof forty years, with an emphasis on works on paper, the collectionthat adorned the walls of their Parisian apartment was the naturalextension of a life spent in the company of the greatest artists,writers and booksellers of the twentieth century. Of Hungarian origin, Alexandre Loewy arrived in Paris onNovember 10th 1927, the day of his 21stbirthday, and opened his first bookshop-gallery on Rue Michelet.Strong-willed and charismatic, Alexandre would soon count the mosteminent booksellers and publishers among his advisors and friends,including Pierre Bérès, Iliazd, Tériade, Aimé Maeght and AlbertSkira... Fuelled by a shared love of art andliterature, over the next half century they would together assemblethe pieces that constitute their delightful collection. Alexandre Loewy's aesthetic vision - the bold and uncompromisingdecisions he made regarding art and especially illustrated books –was reflected in the selection of works he and Odile chose toexhibit in their spacious Parisian apartment.
