Provenance: Important Russian Pictures, Christie\’s London, 29 November 2006, lot 116. Private collection, Europe. Related Literature: For similar works, see L. Korotkina, Konstantin Somov, St Petersburg, Zolotoi Vek, 2004, No. 127, illustrated; pp. 258 and 263, listed. The present lot is from the 1929–1931 set of Somov\’s studies and sketches of his model Boris Snezhkovsky, made during the artist\’s work on the illustrations for Daphnis et Chloé by Longus published by Éditions du Trianon, Paris, in 1931.
