Oil on canvas. Housed in a period giltwood frame with presentation plaque. Signed and dated lower right "George Smith 1862", titled on presentation plaque. NOTE: George Smith was a member of the Royal Academy exhibiting 78 paintings during his career; Smith assisted in the frescoes at the Houses of Parliament and is represented at the Victoria & Albert Museum. REFERENCE: Companion painting "The Will Found 1868" was sold at Lyon & Turnbull, 12/3/08, Lot 19 SIZE: 30-1/4" x 29-1/2".
