NATHANIEL SICHEL (1843-1907) - THREE BEAUTIES -
Mis: 57 by 33 1/2 in. 144.8 by 85 cm
signed N. Sichel (lower left) oil on canvas
PROVENANCE
Private Collection (circa 1965) Thence by descent to the present owner
CATALOGUE NOTE
Rather than an exact representation of Middle Eastern life, Sichel, like many of his contemporaries, used elments of the culture to explore the aethetic possiblities of exotic costume, elaborate settings, and beautiful women. The present work with its trio of lovely women is emblematic of the artist's oeuvre which most often featured female figures somewhat seductively posed, painted with a fine brush and exacting attention to alluring detail.
