Angus Henry Shortt

Angus H. Shortt (1908-2006) Three Black Ducks Signed "Angus H. Shortt" lower left Oil on canvas, 20 by 24 inches Wild Wings, Inc., Lake City, Minnesota label on back Angus Shortt was born in Northern Ireland, and his family immigrated to Winnipeg, Canada in 1910 when he was two years old. His artistic impulses were encouraged by his mother, and his rural home at Deer Lodge afforded many opportunities to study the area's wildlife. Shortt worked as a wood engraver before becoming the Artist-Technician for the Manitoba Museum, where he was responsible for bird and mammal displays. The artist was an active writer and member of the American Ornithologists' Union, and maintained close ties to Ducks Unlimited in both Canada and the U.S, which awarded him the 1981-82 Art Award for his work.
