Published in the June 10, 1944 issue of The Saturday Evening Post, illustrating a story by R. Ross Annett. "Amos Sewell had a special empathy for children and also particularly enjoyed depicting homespun, rural subjects. These special gifts were ideally combined in the illustration he made for a series of stories about Babe, Little Joe, Big Joe, and Uncle Pete by R. Ross Annett that ran for over twenty years in The Saturday Evening Post"--Reed, The Illustrator in America, page 294).

Condition: Foxing to margins, mild surface grime.
Provenance: Wedding gift from the artist and Ruth Sewell, c. 1971 to the current owner.
N.B. Amos Sewell and his wife Ruth lived in the consignor's great-grandparents' home in Westport, Connecticut. The artist was a good friend of their family, who still lived on property across the street. Family members modeled for him, and Sewell also used scenes of their farm as backgrounds in his illustrations.
