The attribution of the present painting was confirmed by Ellen Bernt (written communication 1982). She compares the picture with two signed works by Schütz the Elder at the Goethe-Museum, Frankfurt (see E. Beutler, Frankfurter Goethe-Museum, 1949, nos. 25 and 26).
