A typical naïve and dream-like figurative composition of the artist

The dimensions of the image are 46 x 75.4 cm, the sheet measures approximately 54 x 68.8 cm, and the frame is 74.3 x 95.2 cm in size. Friedrich Schröder-Sonnenstern (1892-1982) Friedrich Schröder was born in 1892 in East Prussia. His childhood and youth was marked by hospitalizations to educational and mental institutions and an incapacitation. In 1919, he fled to Berlin and added Sonnenstern to his name in 1928. During a hospitalization in 1933, Schröder-Sonnenstern was encouraged to draw by the painter Hans Ralf, but pursued it intensively only since 1949. He then developed a very individual imagery, characterized by sexual subject matters, initially in pencil, and then in color crayon as of 1952. His first solo exhibition was held in 1961 in the Galerie Brockstedt in Hamburg, followed by exhibitions at the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf in 1967 and the Kestner-Gesellschaft in Hannover in 1982. (tm)
