Henry Schouten (Belgian, 1864/1867-1927), "Cattle in the Field", oil on canvas, signed lower left, 23-3/4" x 35-1/2". Framed.
CONDITION REPORT
**Henry Schouten (Belgian, 1864/1867-1927), "Cattle in the Field": In generally good restored condition. Abrading to upper left portion of canvas. A few pinprick-sized losses to paint surface. Four patched repairs en verso of canvas, each with corresponding inpainting repairs including one to the bottom left edge, one to upper right portion, one to upper left portion, and one to the body of one of the cows. Stretcher shadow along upper edge of canvas. A layer of surface soiling, yellowing of varnish layer, and scattered losses of gesso to the frame.

Frame rubbing. Surface grime. Canvas is buckling. There is a 1 1/2 inch diameter area of inpaint in the thigh and background of the brown dog in the center left, with a corresponding patch on the reverse. There is also another repaired hole in the back foot of the white dog in the lower right quadrant, approximately 1/4 inch in diameter, with a corresponding patch on the reverse. Lastly there is a 2 x 1 inch area of inpaint in the front left paw of the white dog. There is no further restoration visible under UV light.

**Henry Schouten (Belgian, 1864/67-1927), "Cattle in a Field": Canvas has been relined. Evidence of inpainting within the craquelure, two round spots in the sky, several spots in the cow and in the foreground, as well as along the edges. Several minor flake chips to paint.
