Ralph Bryan"; other illegible writing below the signature. This was a preliminary study for the great north wall mural in the Hall of State building completed in 1936 for the Texas Centennial Exposition in Dallas at Fair Park. Eugene Savage was a professor of painting at Yale University and was assisted in the project by Texas artists Reveau Bassett and James Buchanan "Buck"
Winn,
Jr. with further help from art students Bill Smith and Lonnie Lyon. Ralph Bryan was one of the group of architects selected to oversee the project. This mural depicts the "Texas of History"
from the early exploration of Texas through the successful struggle for independence in 1836.

The memorial was officially dedicated on July 14, 1926.
