Description:
Eliel Saarinen
shallow candy bowl
Nessen Studio, Inc.
Finland, 1934
brass
9 dia x 6 h inches
The spherical motif utilized by Eliel Saarinen for this candy
dish is emblematic of his forward thinking designs; the simple,
pure, geometric shape illustrates the machine age aesthetic in
America. This unique work was designed to accompany the brass tea
urn and tray in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum
of Art, New York. While a small number of tea urns and trays were
produced, only one candy dish was ever made.
