Description:
Pieter Andreas Rysbraeck (Paris 1684–1748 London) Still life with a hare, a duck and a pigeon, oil on canvas, 84 x 123 cm, framed

We are grateful to Fred Meijer for confirming the authenticity. He suggests that the present work might be the result of a cooperation between Pieter Andreas and his son Gerard Rysbraeck (Antwerp 1696–1773). Rysbraeck grew up in Paris and moved to London with his brother, the sculptor Jan Michael Rysbraeck, in 1720. He soon received numerous commissions for still lifes with game, which he set in park landscapes often decorated with antique statues and ruins.

(Paris 1684–1748 London)

Hunting still life with a hare, a duck, and a dove

oil on canvas, 84 x 123 cm, framed

We are grateful to Fred Meijer for confirming the attribution of the present painting. He points out that it may well be a joint work by Pieter Andreas and his son, Gerard Rysbraeck (Antwerp 1696–1773).

Rysbraeck grew up in Paris and moved to London in 1720 along with his brother, the sculptor Jan Michael Rysbraeck. There he received numerous commissions for hunting still lifes, which he set in park landscapes and frequently decorated with antique statues or fragments of reliefs.

Description:
Pieter Andreas Rysbraeck - a pair (2)
(Paris 1684–1748 London)

A pair of hunting still lifes with game, a bouquet of flowers and fruits in a vast landscape, one against a stone relief with playing putti,

each with remains of a signature lower left and lower centre respectively: P. Ry. bk F...,

oil on canvas, 67.5 x 92.5 and 68 x 92 cm respectively, framed

a pair (2)

We are grateful to Mr Fred Meijer of the RKD, The Hague, for confirming the authenticity of the present painting. He thus wrote to the previous owner: \“The pair are indeed very nice examples of Pieter Rijsbrack\’\’\’\’s work...\”. Pieter Rysbraeck was the son of a painter and brother of three artists. In 1710/11 he became master of the Guild of Saint Luke in Antwerp. Together with his brother Michael, a sculptor, he moved to London in 1720. They were later joined by their brother Gerard, a still life painter. Pieter Rysbraeck specialized in still lifes and hunting paintings, but also produced topographically precise landscapes and views of English estates. His most important patron was the Earl of Burlington, for whom he painted views of the gardens of Chiswick House.
