The work on hand derives from the hand of the German painter Joseph Rummelspacher and dates back to 1890s. The painting depicts the mountainous landscape of the Floiten valley in Tyrol. There is a small cabin of old age on the right side and a torrential river next to it. The picture is signed lower left \‘Rummelspacher. Bn.\’\’\’\’\’\’\’\’ It is in good condition, with slight traces of age and use as well as its frame. The surface shows some craquelure. The overall dimensions including the frame are 127 x 90 cm, the image measures 112.5 x 76 cm.Joseph Rummelspacher (1852-1921) Joseph Rummelspacher was born in 1852 in Berlin, where he studied at the Academy since 1870. From 1871 to 1873 he was a student of Theodor Hagen (1842-1919) at the Weimar Saxon-Grand Ducal Art School. Here he joined the Weimar Painter\’\’\’\’\’\’\’\’s School, a group which turned away from the academic traditions and idealized compositions and, similar to the Barbizon school, turned to realistic landscapes and genre painting. He went on study trips to Switzerland, Northern Italy, Corsica and Norway. Later, he finally settled in Berlin, where he became a member of the Association of Berlin Artists.
