Additional Notes:
In the early 1800s, owner Jacob Eksteen split the Rustenberg estate in Stellenbosch. He gave one section to his son-in-law, who named it Schoongezicht and sold it soon after. Both Rustenberg and Schoongezicht were at their peak around 1812, with beautiful Cape Dutch buildings and flourishing vineyards. John X Merriman, who later became Prime Minister of the Cape, bought Schoongezicht in 1892. In 1941 Peter and Pamela Barlow bought both Rustenberg and Schoongezicht in order to reunite the properties.
