executed in 1987-1988 tim rollins works in collaboration with the kids of survival in order to produce artworks that are reflective of modern american inner city life. the series of works entitled \\‘amerika\\’\\’ are derived from franz kafka\\’\\’s novel of the same title which illustrates the struggle of a young immigrant in america and deals with issues of alienation of which k.o.s can relate their own anxieties of living in the bronx and the disillusionment by white patriarchal society. rollins and k.o.s make art literally and figuratively, out of the books they read together; the series \\‘amerika\\’\\’ are painted on the 294 pages of kafka\\’\\’s book; the golden metallic paint and the imagery presented on the pages relate to the last chapter which sees women dressed as angels blowing golden horns. provenance galeria pepe cobo, madrid
