Footnote:
In the House of Delia was later reworked as an oil paintingentitled Tibullus in the House of Delia
. In bothversions the figure to the left of the central figure is clearlyRicketts and that on her right clearly Shannon. In the painting itis possible to see that Lucien Pissarro might be the figure to theright of Shannon. 'Delia' was a beautiful model,

EdithBroadbent,

whom Shannon had used before,

but shewas always known as Amaryllis or 'Ryllis. A pastel of her by himwas purchased by a wealthy barrister,

William LlewellynHacon (1860-1910) who subsequently married the original and thenfinanced the setting up of the Vale Press. Said to have been aprostitute,

she had earlier been set up in a flat byHerbert Horne and Arthur Symons,

who based some of hisstories in the
Savoy on her life. She had the richgolden hair and voluptuous figure associated with Titian and thelater work of D.G. Rossetti.
