PROPERTY FROM A PRIVATE COLLECTION
Ricci's colorful and robust depiction of Pan, the God of Woods and Fields, stresses his pointed ears, sharp horns and goat's legs, appropriate to his traditional allegorical role as the personification of Lust. He holds on his lap the syrinx, or reed pipes, whose music he entrusted to seduce the nymphs and Maenads of Arcadia, his happy realm.
