Pencil heightened with wash, dated in pencil lower left, the reverse with an ink and wash figure study dated 16th June 1849, CATALOGUE NOTE Jones's work as an artist is a fascinating reminder of the extent to which his interest as a photographer coincided with his earlier but lasting interests as an artist. Literature R. Buckman, The Photographic Work of Calvert Richard Jones,London, 1990, fig.HS59. Lot Notes Jones embarked on his Mediterranean journey with Kit Talbot andfamily in November 1845. After Charlotte Talbot's death in Malta inApril 1846, Jones and his wife continued on to Naples, where thisphotograph was taken.
