Description: Artist: Winold Reiss | 1886-1953 Title: Chief Curly Bear, Blackfoot Signed l/r: Winold Reiss Medium: Watercolor on board Dimensions: 20 by 16 inches Condition Report: Condition: Very Good This painting is in very good condition. With the unaided eye there are no issues. Closer inspection under ultraviolet light reveals normal fluorescence of artist's pigments, and no signs of restoration. The work is framed under glass. It has been inspected out of the frame and the board has toning consistent with age. The piece is framed in a gold panel with a linen liner and a gold inner liner. The frame is in good condition with minimal wear. Gold plate: Portrait of Chief Curly Bear Blackfoot, painted in the 1920’s, Fritz Winold Reiss, 1888-1953. This condition report has been prepared by Altermann Galleries and is no substitute for a physical inspection by you and/or your representative. Lot 33 WINOLD REISS (1886-1953): STUDY FOR THE MURALS AT THE CINCINNATI UNION TERMINAL (WORKMAN) Conté crayon and chalk on thin paper, 1933, signed with initials 'W.R' lower right, with label from Shepherd Gallery, NY. 23 1/2 x 18 1/2 in. (sheet), 30 1/2 x 25 1/2 in. (frame). Note: Winold Reiss was the artist commissioned to design the glass mosaic murals installed in the renovated Union Terminal railway station in Cincinnati, OH. The murals depict the cultural heritage of the U.S. with an emphasis on local industry. Reiss created the designs which were executed in glass tile by the Ravenna Tile Company of NY. This drawing is a study for the figure of a workman seen from the back. The figure is located to the left of the boat captain in the mural. Property from the Estate of William Kelly Simpson
