River bend with trees and reed

Czech landscape painter, he studied in Vienna and then went to France where he settled in Barbizon, his paintings exhibited in 1899 were the first encounter with Impressionism. His principles of work with colour and light were typical of his work throughout his life. Unlike Mařák´s pupils who rendered their emotional relationship towards the landscape, Radimský respected more the analytical approach of Impressionists and mainly their technique of painting. However, he was not able to further develop the idea of the Impressionists. He became more a more conservative which was apparent in his numerous landscapes of the Elbe region which originated in the period between the wars and towards the end of his life.
