Description:
Item No. 1338055 : Susana Raab, The Unfortunate Result of the Demise of the Public Phone Booth, 2007 D2AB Digital C print, signed, numbered "2/15" on the reverse. 500 - 1000 Directly from the artist. 20 x 24" Condition The convenience of modern living has left us with unprecedented amounts of free time and a myriad of ways in which to spend that free time. My series, Off-Season, from which this work derives, examines our pursuit of pleasure purveyed, of the marketed moment, and how we define ourselves within this context. These images reflect how the good times have diverted us. In the hustle of our lives, leisure time can be as stressful as work. But it does prevent us from reflection and self-contemplation. The bright lights of the fair can be a darker siren's call. We are lost, wandering in an interminable off-season, the festival is on-going, but the party is over. Susana Raab is a documentary photographer whose work has been exhibited widely: at Noorderlicht Photofestival, the New York Photo Festival, the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo in Madrid, among others. She has received awards and recognition including from the Ernst Haas Golden Light Rewards, Photo District News, the White House News Photograpers' Association, the DC Commission on the Arts & Humanites/National Endowment for the Arts, the Photo Review, American Photography, and PhotoLucida's Critical Mass. She lives in Washington, DC. This photograph is in excellent condition. Payment must be received within 10 days of end of auction.
