"Armchair for the Werkbund Exhibition in Cologne 1914"
Realisation: Brothers Thonet, 1914 Carved oak wood, curved beechwood; renewed upholstery; the backrest, which is carved on bothsides, reaches to the floor and rests on a half ring made of curvedbeech wood, which combines it with the thick and grooved frontlegs. The curved armrests from glued and curved beech wood veneersare adapted to the oak wood by the treatment of the surface;

For the Werkbund Exhibition in Cologne in 1914 all members of theAustrian Werkbund designed interior decorations, single pieces offurniture as well as small pieces of art such as metallic objectsand decorative glasses. A sitting room suit, consisting of a tableand two armchairs, was exhibited in the \“Room for a Collection\” andis one of the most famous pieces of furniture. The exhibition wasorganised for all national Werkbund unions and all exhibitedobjects should demonstrate the workmanlike and artisticachievements of all artists. The chair by Prutscher is a clearexample for the magnificent artistic level.
