MARGARET FISHER-PROUT (British, 1875-1963) A Study of Mrs Mary Murray Fuller 1955 oil on canvas inscribed verso: "Painted by Margaret Fisher-Prout / unfinished and unsigned/ Painted at "The Quarry", Forest Rowe, Sussex 1955 60 x 50cm OTHER NOTES: Margaret Fisher-Prout was a painter of flowers, landscapes and figures in an Impressionist style and helped to improve perceptions of modern art in Britain. She was an active member of multiple societies and clubs that helped support and promote the work of women, including the Society of Women Artists and the Women's International Art Club. Prout often employed unconventional techniques in her artworks, for example making studies in oil before completing a final watercolour, she would use certain colours and pigments in unusual ways and sometimes poured water over a work to achieve her desired result.

Margaret Fisher Prout was a London artist and daughter of the painter Mark Fisher. Prout painted in an Impressionistic style with her primary focus on landscape, flowers and figures. She was born in 1875 in Chelsea, London and studied under her prominent father as well as attending the Slade School from 1894-1897.

She exhibited at several places including the New English Art Club and the Royal Academy. Not only was Prout an artist but she was a teacher at the Hammersmith School of Arts and Crafts. A solo exhibition was held at the Beaux Arts Gallery in 1922.
