Verso i polimaterici, Galleria Fonte d\’Abisso, 1989, exh. cat. no. 12 with ill. \“Between 1930 and 1936, Prampolini would create a series of landscapes and cosmic organisms in which the lessons of Arp and Mirò happily bear fruit\”. In the works of those years the artist \“is able to translate his symbolic and mythical intentions into images that are both completely invented and absolutely concrete; but they indicate significant stages not only in Italy (where until then the only one to push himself in a similar direction was Licini, who had independently discovered Mirò and the Surrealists) but within European art of the Thirties itself. These works rightly insert themselves into the process of immersion and organic liquefaction of the surrealist images which through Masson and Matta would emerge later in the experiences of Gorky and informal poetics.\” F. Menna, Enrico Prampolini, De Luca, Rome, 1967

Description:
Enrico Prampolini * (Modena 1894–1956 Rome) Materia Cosmica, 1929, signed Prampolini, oil on masonite, 81 x 100 cm, framed Photo certificate signed by Alessandro Prampolini, December 1972 (with the stamp of Galleria Artecentro, Milan) Provenance: World House Gallery, New York (label on the reverse) Stuttgarter Kunstkabinett, R. N. Ketterer, Stuttgart, no. 383 (label on the reverse) Galleria Marlborough, Rome Galleria Toninelli, Milan Galleria Artecentro, Milan, no. 3843 (label on the reverse) European Private Collection Exhibited: World House Gallery, New York, 1957 Hartford (Connecticut), Salute to Italy, Wadsworth Atheneum, 21 April - 28 May 1961 (label on the reverse) Galleria Toninelli, Milan Literature: Filiberto Menna, Enrico Prampolini, De Luca (ed.), Rome, 1967, p. 233, no.76 ill. no. 158 […] this need for extroversion also informed the period that was most open to fantastical inspirations, the phase of \\\‘cosmic idealism\\\’, in which Prampolini, under the spell of Surrealism, created a new universe of images, which prefigured the imminent conquest of cosmic space. At that time, around 1930, the artist used the data and information afforded by science and technology and organised them like science fiction, creating a kind of \\\“fantastical painting\\\” that combined the love of adventure and the unknown with the urge to prefigure new worlds [and new dimensions] of a metaphysical and metapsychic nature. F. Menna, Futurismo e Futurismi, Milan 1986
