August Plum, b. Copenhagen 1815, d. Fredensborg 1876 "Et sjællandsk hestemarked", "A Zealand Horse Marked". Unsigned. Oil on canvas. 71 x 98 cm. Statens Museum for Kunst (National Gallery of Denmark) owns an unsigned version which is a bit larger (76 x 103 cm). That one exhibited at Charlottenborg in 1839 and bought by the museum the same year. The canvas is relined. Numerous crackles. Peelings. In need of cleaning.

August Plum participated in the years 1845-1847 in theGalathea Expedition, which went to Tahiti among otherplaces. Similar motif illustrated in "Galatheas Forunderlige Rejse"by Søren Koustrup, p. 239. Note The paper has turned slightlybrown. Some foxing.
