Lot Condition Report
Sebastian
Pether was the son of the artist Abraham Pether (1756-1812), and is
likely to have studied under his father. Like his father, he became
known for his moonlit scenes, and exhibited extensively at the
Royal Academy between 1812-1826, as well as at the British
Institution. Although the present view is unidentified, the artist
painted several versions of this scene.
