Description: Ferdinand Pautrot (French, 1832-1874) gun dogs with game, late 19th century, retailed by ball, black & co. new york Two bronzes, dark brown patina, one depicting a setter with a duck in its jaws, the other a pointer holding a hare, on rectangular bases, each signed prominently to base "F. PAUTROT", small impressed marking "ADMIS AUX BEAUX ARTS" and "BALL, BLACK & CO. NEW-YORK". H: 18, W: 15, D: 11 in. (approx) Notes: Born in Poitiers, Pautrot exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1861 to 1870. He modelled birds and animals almost exclusively, and became well known for producing fine models of hunting dogs and game birds that celebrated the country pursuits of the upper classes. These models proved particularly popular, and were created in five sizes, with the present bronzes amongst the larger sizes cast.
