Henry Perlee Parker (British, 1795-1873) "Portrait of a Chelsea Pensioner Reading the Naval and Military Gazette" oil on canvas signed and dated "1837(?)" lower right. Framed. 30" x 24", framed 39" x 34" Notes: Traditionally, the term "Chelsea pensioner" was used to refer to any retired military member residing at the Royal Hospital Chelsea. Such portraits often depicted the former soldiers and seamen in red coats, reading up on the exploits of their active compatriots.

(B.P. 24% incl. VAT) CONDITION REPORT: Two small patches to the canvas verso, otherwise appearing in good overall condition, period foliate gilt frame and slip which has been gold painted.
