Lot 1231: Filippo Palizzi, Rest by a Well in the Abruzzi Description: Signed lower right: Palizzi Filippo Palizzi was born in 1818 and enrolled at the academy in Naples in 1836, but abandoned his studies there soon after due to dissatisfaction with the academic teaching. He then enlisted at Giuseppe Bonoli's private art school. A trip to France in 1855 during which he encountered the modern landscape painting of the Barbizon school for the first time was also highly influential for his further career. Following this sojourn he travelled to the Netherlands where he carried out in depth studies of nature. Upon his return to Naples he was able to introduce the local art scene to the Realist style of Courbet, who he had met in France. Filippo Palizzi 38 x 47 cm Oil on canvas
