Description: Josephine Paddock (American, 1885-1964) Two New York Ladies' Portraits: Mrs. Fred Wiemann (English Girl) and Miss Annette Decker. Wiemann titled, dated, and signed "...'49/J. Paddock" on the reverse, Decker titled, dated, and inscribed ".../43/ Property of J.P." on the reverse and signed and inscribed "By Miss J. Paddock/115 E 86/N.Y. 28" on the stretcher. Oil on canvasboard and canvas respectively, sizes approximately 24 x 18 in., in the artist's hand-painted frames. Condition: Varnish discoloration, surface grime.

There are three, very small canvas punctures, each of which hasbeen patched on the verso and retouched on the recto. One islocated in the lower right corner. The other two damages arelocated at approx. 17 x 16 1/2 in. and 16 x 16 1/2 in., height bydistance from the left edge.

Several smaller repaired areas ofdamage: upper right corner; far upper right center; lower leftedge; several spots in center and center right. Visible stretchermarks. Scattered areas of craquelure. 8 inch mark at upper right;line of tiny paint flakes, four inches, in her right shoulder.Difficult to detect restoration under UV light through thescreening varnish. There is inpainting over the areas of repaireddamage.
