Description:
Having studied the violin from a young age, Mexican artist Leonardo Nierman’’’’s works often reference the rhythms and harmonies he believes intersects all art forms. “Untitled (Love)” finds movements within the rigid onyx stone, creating an abstracted form reminiscent of a flame rising upwards. Both smooth and fluid, this sculpture seems to float on its marble base with a sense of weightlessness. Leonardo Nierman (Mexican, b. 1932) Born in Mexico City, Leonardo Nierman originally began a career in music, attending the National Conservatory of Music of Mexico. After giving up the violin, music has continued to play a significant role in Nierman’’’’s art, reproducing rhythm and harmony within his paintings and sculptures. Best known for his abstract landscape paintings, Nierman’’’’s works are full of color and movement. His works can be found in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, Mexico City; the Art Institute of Chicago; Vatican Museum of Contemporary Art & Vatican Gardens, Rome; and the Museum of Modern Art in Latin American, Washington, DC. Condition In overall good condition. Leonardo Nierman, ‘Untitled (Love)’’, Onyx Stone, c. 1970 Onyx stone on marble base Mexico, circa 1970 Leonardo Nierman (b. 1932) – Mexican sculptor and painter Incised signature on base ‘nierman’’’’ Dimensions (height): 27 in.
