Carlos Nadal (1917-1998) Cuenca signed 'CNadal' (lower right); signed, dated and with the atelier stamp 'CNadal 1982 Atelier Carles Nadal' (on the reverse) oil on paper laid down on panel 19½ x 24 in. (49.5 x 61 cm.) Painted in 1982, this works is typical of Nadal's fauvist style. Nadal spent a month making preliminary sketches in the romantic town of Cuenca in 1978 and 1980, painting other works at the atelier from the working drawings and watercolours. For examples of these sketches, see J. Duncalfe, Carlos Nadal 1917-1988, Works on Paper, Harrogate, 2014. Harrogate Festival Exhibition, 1984. Duncalfe Galleries, Harrogate. Private collection, London, by whom acquired from the above circa 1980s.

The authenticity of this work has been confirmed by the Comité Nadal. Acquired directly from the artist by the present owner Carlos Nadal 1917-1998 CHEZ MARIA (TOWN SQUARE) signed Nadal and dated 71 (lower right) oil on panel 46 by 59.5cm., 18 by 23½in. Painted in 1971. Uninspected out of frame since it has not been possible to remove the work from its frame. The panel is sound. There is a layer of varnish on the surface, although UV examination does not reveal any signs of retouching. This work is in good condition. "In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report.
