Bartholomeus Molenaer (Haarlem c.1618-1650) Peasants drinking and playing cards in a tavern signed with monogram 'B.MR.' ('MR' linked, lower centre) oil on panel 13 7/8 x 12 7/8 in (35.3 x 32.7 cm) with the armorial red wax seal of the Von Brasch family (on the panel reverse)
Von Brasch, Russian Empire (Estonia, Livonia and Courland), after 1794 (according to the coat-of-arms on the reverse). Dudok de Wit, Holland, c. 1900; and by descent to the present owner.
We are grateful to Jan van Helmont for identifying the Von Brasch arms.
