Northern Germany with its sprawling heathlands and rural atmosphere has always been a central source of inspiration for the German artist Arthur Meyer zu Küingdorf. The present painting shows a remote village lane with pretty thatched cottages which are very typical for that region. The artist has skillfully played with light and shadows that give the painting a charming luminosity.

The painting is in a very good condition with minimal traces of age and use. The artist has monogrammed and dated his work with \‘AMK 75 \‘ at the lower right. The piece measures 60 cm in height and 100 cm in width.

Arthur Meyer zu Küingdorf (1920 – 2005)
The German painter Arthur Meyer zu Küingdorf, born in the northern region of Lower Saxony in 1920, began his artistic career with his training at the Hamburg Academy of Arts between 1947 and 1951. He then worked as an independent artist throughout his entire life and became quite well-known for his depictions of landscapes which he had explored on his numerous travels across Europe. In 2003, the artist moved to Hilden, close to Dusseldorf, to spend the rest of his days in Western Germany. Meyer zu Küingdorf\’\’\’\’s style is characterized by a dynamic flow and a focus on the most essential parts of a landscape impression. His works have been exhibited in many group and solo exhibitions, especially in Germany. (cbo)
